RE: What is the main advantg / disadvantg of 4 down vs a dolly

For the first few years we used the Blue Ox equivalent of the Brake Buddy but found it unsatisfactory. It required a substantial effort to install, was prone to moving around, didn't press the pedal the same each time, and ran the toad battery down after 2-3 days. We put in an Air Force One and have been nothing but pleased. Nothing to install, remove, and store, gives proportional braking, and has the only safety approved break away setup. I purchased the brake system, tow bar and base plate and installed them myself. Lots of good info on installations at the Blue Ox web site. John

RE: Worried - My First Engine Oil Analysis

The first thing I'd do is a complete oil and filter change. Make sure the engine has been run at road speeds and then the oil and filter is pulled and allowed to drain COMPLETELY when still hot. Run about 5000 miles, sample the same way you just did and change oil and filters again. Another 5000 miles and a sample should tell you definitely if you have a problem. I'd tend to believe a sloppy repair job with a history you related, but a call or visit to a Cat dealer might also be in order. The engine carries a 100,000 mile guarantee I believe.

RE: speed cameras

Sounds fair to me. You do the speed, you pay the fine. They even give you 10 over. Maybe some of the idiots will lighten up on the pedal. John

RE: What is the main advantg / disadvantg of 4 down vs a dolly

A lot of good and bad points to both but you'll only have to load or unload a dolly once in the rain on dirt to know how you want to tow. I learned with a rental dolly so it was a relatively cheap lesson. John

RE: Bought a Lifeline battery

Check the paperwork on your charger/inverter. Many allow you to adjust the charging profile to optimum sequence for your AGM. Also, some solar charging regulators allow the same adjustment. It's not an "end of the earth" issue, but if it's possible it should be done to get absolute max performance out of your AGM. John

RE: GPS and Laptop Combination

Think of your laptop as a big sack of maps of everywhere that doesn't take up much room. When used without the GPS feature, it's just like the old paper maps, but with the ability to find places easily without a huge index, and the ability to see a blowup of anywhere. Add the GPS receiver and it now tells you where to go and how to get there. It's that easy. John

RE: trailer brake module on XC chassis ?

Cool, glad you found it and got it in OK. Freightliner always puts them in the same place but some coach builders tend to move and hide them. It took us 3 service techs before they could point it out to us. John

RE: What to see & do in Arizona

Kartchner Caverns In SE part of the state near Benson. Reservation a must.Yes! A must see. But check first. You may need reservations. They only take a limited number in per day and they tend to fill up. John

RE: Black Water Tanks

The clear adapters also come in 45 degree offsets. We have one permanently installed and it's a big help when emptying and flushing. John

RE: Plastic Drawer / Door latches Monaco uses!!!!

Is this the type you have? Push Latch. Same ones are used on my MH. Have not lost one yet. I wonder if it is an alignment problem. We have the same ones in the Allegro Bus. I've had one break, but they are a great latch. John

RE: Sirius sattelite antenna location

In our old C I mounted it on the inside of the cover of the front vent. Stuck it on with double sided tape. It needed to be above the screen, but the fiberglass did not seem to attenuate the signal any. John

RE: What's on the floor inside of your door in the RV?

I've got some rug remnants on the steps and a runner down the center of the rig. Our floors are tile, and the rug keeps the feet warmer in the winter. We don't obsess about dirt, but the rugs are easier to clean or throw away than replacing ceramic tile that's become badly scratched. John

RE: Walmart Cheap Stuff?

I have 8 gallons of the cheap pink stuff in the basement to pump into the house water lines when we leave after Christmas. It worked fine the last time I used it, and don't expect an issue this time either. By the way, the pink stuff is NOT poison. That's why it's cleared for use in drinking water systems. John

RE: trailer brake module on XC chassis ?

Check with the maker of your brake controller. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time, but if you want to be able to plug and unplug repeatedly, it might be worth the hassle. John

RE: King Dome Trac-King In-motion satellite

Not too bad a system. We just took ours off because DirecTV is switching most of their HD programming to the Ka satellites that the King Dome can't receive. We're using a Winegard Trav'ler. John

RE: trailer brake module on XC chassis ?

Freightliner put a plug behind the dash that you can hook to your brake controller, but some coach makers plug into it and use some leads for their purposes. Doesn't mean you can't use the leads, you just have to do some splicing. Your rig should have a 6 port plug with the following wires: A pin R-W wire Brake signal from foot B pin BRWN wire Lights C pin R-W wire Brake Signal to tow plug D pin R wire 12V+ power E pin Black wire Ground- F pin Open Port John

RE: pup to alaska

We've been up twice so far and will go again this summer. I see a lot of folks in tents and everything up to big rigs. If you can stand it, go for it. Use sensible precautions when you are in bear areas, but it should not be an issue if you're careful with food and cooking. John
